Charge of the Lightning Brigade

For those away from Virginia, here is an interesting article about VMI basketball in the Washington Post — looks like it’s a little different in Cameron Hall this year. Read the article here.

Update, 27 December: I received another reference to this way of playing from a local alum — this link goes to the Sports Illustrated National Statistics page — the Keydets are leading the nation (!!!) in several categories, including scoring, assists, and steals.

I went to the UR game last week, courtesy of a good friend who is a UR alum and season ticket holder. It was about as exciting and fast paced a game as I’ve seen in a looooonnnng time. It was a gratifying specticle (to borrow a phrase) It made up for the mid 70s when I was overseas and didn’t get to see the Keydets on their way to a elite 8 spot.

For those of you who enjoy Pat Conroy’s writing, I recommend you read “My Losing Season”, which chronicles his year as a senior basketball play at the Citadel (our Rat year)….it’s almost like we’re back in the pit, watching.
