Look for VMI on NBC in the Roanoke/Lexington Area

From “Inside VMI”
VMI’s Office of Communications and Marketing, the Alumni Association and WSLS – TV have been working collaboratively for the past seven months to bring forth a commercial “soft spot” campaign that focuses on VMI’s strengths and values. “Soft spots” are similar to public service announcements, but since VMI doesn’t fit this criteria (public good, or safety, etc), “soft spots” are designed to convey a message which sponsors are often eager and proud to endorse in the same way. The Alumni Association is actively lining-up business partners for the program which will include 30 and 60 second commercial spots to run during high-volume viewing and programming times. VMI wants to inform its public about its “brand”, academic reputation, service and value to Virginia taxpayers and indeed, to the nation. It is essential that VMI “marketing” take on a greater role to ensure that essential messages about VMI get to the public. VMI plans to launch the campaign series in the week of December 19th, and may have the opportunity to place a 60 second spot in a spot availability during NBC’s Sunday morning program, “Meet the Press” with Tim Russert. The series will run next year until early February and include the NBC Winter Olympics.
