This is the web site for the Class of 1970 of the Virginia Military Institute. It will never be really complete as it will continue to grow with pictures and notes hopefully supplied by you all. It has a place for Class Notes, announcements and other things. You can add your own notes under News or Announcements as well as comment on entries.
This site uses page generation software called WordPress. It is a publishing software with a focus on ease of use, speed and a great user experience. It offers a freely distributed, standards-compliant, fast, light and free personal publishing platform, with sensible default settings and features, and an extremely customizable core. WordPress is blessed with an active community, which is the heart of open source software. WordPress is licensed under the GPL. More information and documentation is available at their website, wordpress.org. This is a well documented program and I will refer to their documentation in numerous places in lieu of my writing it.
Writing or Editing a Post or Comment
WordPress makes it very easy to post an article or comment on an article. Along the top of each page a series of links will, when selected, take you to other portions of the site. If you are not logged in, the “Login” tab will go to the login page. After you log in, this tab changes to “Logout.” Next to the login tab is a link that will take you directly to a page that allows to to write an article. This page has a basic text entry editor that also has some buttons to provide some basic formatting capabilities. The good news is that, if you don’t like what you see after it is posted, you are allowed to edit your post by selecting the “Edit This” link next to your article.
Comments/suggestions are welcome. Also anyone who wants to help do this is welcome. Just drop me an email. Better than that — make a post or comment directly on the site for all to see and discuss.
